Why RNG?

RNG can help reduce your carbon footprint/greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by replacing the fossil fuel-based natural gas you’re currently using. RNG is created from organic waste continuously produced by humans, and is a natural part of the decomposition process. When food waste goes to Green Era instead of landfills, most of the greenhouse gasses they would have emitted directly into the air are prevented.

Not only does Green Era’s RNG prevent emissions that would have come from food waste in landfills, it yields further environmental benefits by replacing the fracking process. The majority of natural gas in the United States is currently sourced by fracking, which causes damage to the ecosystem by polluting the water, air, and soil.

Lastly, the final product of anaerobic digestion is a solid digestate that can be directly applied to land or used to create finished compost. This digestate not only improves soil health without the use of chemicals, it also improves water absorption, reduces erosion, and absorbs additional carbon from the air.

For all of these reasons, Green Era’s RNG is carbon-negative energy source. The Green Era facility will use well-established, proven technology to produce this fuel, which can be used to heat thousands of homes through existing infrastructure.
